The active ingredient of Decaris - levamisole - is an anthelmintic agent.Acting on ganglion-like formations of nematodes, Dekaris causes depolarizing neuromuscular paralysis of the helminth muscle membrane, blocks succinate dehydrogenase, inhibits fumarate dehydrogenase, disrupting the course of bioenergetic processes of helminths. Thus, paralyzed nematodes are removed from the body by normal intestinal motility within 24 hours after taking the drug.

Pharmacokinetics

Levamisole, when taken orally at a dose of 50 mg, is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. The maximum concentration in blood plasma is determined, on average, 1.5-2 hours after taking the drug. Levamisole undergoes intensive metabolism in the liver, its main metabolites are p-hydroxy-levamisole and its glucuronide. The half-life from the body is 3-6 hours. In unchanged form, less than 5% is excreted in urine, and less than 0.2% of the administered dose is excreted in feces.

Overdose

When taking the drug simultaneously with alcoholic beverages, disulfiram-like phenomena are observed.Caution is required when using Decaris with drugs that affect hematopoiesis. When taking the drug simultaneously with coumarin-like anticoagulants, the prothrombin time may be prolonged, so it is necessary to adjust the dose of the oral anticoagulant.
